We recently connected with Ike Kawaguchi and have shared our conversation below.

Alright, so we’re so thrilled to have Ike with us today – welcome and maybe we can jump right into it with a question about one of your qualities that we most admire. How did you develop your work ethic? Where do you think you get it from?
Skateboarding throughout the years has taught me one very important thing: if you fall, get back up and try again. This has pushed me forward throughout my career.

Thanks, so before we move on maybe you can share a bit more about yourself?
Hi, I’m Ike Kawaguchi. I’m a musician, voice-actor, and cultivator of good vibes. My goal is to bring people together so they don’t feel alone. In this post-covid era, we are reconnecting to the world around us. For some of us, it’s easier said than done. Loneliness hates company. “Social media is enough socializing.” We can agree that at some point between 2019 and now, we’ve felt this way.

How do we create community? How do we feel good? How do we grow? These are the questions I try to answer with my music.

Creating Community:

I live stream every weekday at 4:30 pm PST (unless otherwise stated) on Tiktok, Twitch, Instagram, and Youtube. I’ve met people from, but not limited to, Brazil, France, Vietnam, and almost every state in the US. Turns out we all have things in common! We created The Kawaguchi Forever Family as a community of relatedness. Via the Patreon Subscription (www.patreon.com/ikekawaguchi) become a part of a private WhatsApp group where we share ideas, make requests, and chat about anything we’d like.

Feel good through Meditation:

In this fast pace and at times chaotic world, taking a few minutes to slow down and breathe could make the difference. Your Amygdala (brain), pre-frontal cortex (brain), and soul will thank you. Is it hard to stand still for more than a few seconds? With Meditation with Ike, I walk you through 10 minute meditations for sleep, focus, and relaxation. My vocal range goes deeper in tone to enhance relaxation. Find your inner peace at ikekawaguchi.com/meditationwithike.

New Growth:

It all started with my weekly educational video “How to sample a record and make a beat”. From there the Kawaguchi Forever Family grew. I’ve created custom beats for fans including a Muai Thai fighter’s arena entrance theme and others upon request. If you’re curious about a custom piece or want to learn production, reach out to me at ikekawaguchi.com/contact.

Throughout my life, playing music has brought me joy even at times of turmoil. I was blessed to have studied classical piano since the age of 7. I am a multi-instrumentalist who sings and plays the drums, piano, guitar, and bass. I want to share the joy of music by providing virtual private lessons. Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?
The 3 quality that have ben most impactful in my journey are Getting back up, Nurturing Partnerships, and Consistency.

Remember those days running around as a young child? All good, I don’t either. Point is, most likely, you played sports or tag with your friends or skateboarded like me. What did you do when you fell? GET BACK UP and try again. This mindset might get lost as we get older. DON”T LET IT! Keep getting up and keep trying. Over and over again. Take notes and improve. The incremental changes may not be obvious immediately but, when you look back, you’ll laugh in excitement for what you’ve accomplished.

Nurturing Partnerships is something we easily overlook. I’m not just talking about the videographer or producer you collaborate with. I’m talking about your roommate, lover, partner, or family members. I’m talking about the people in your life that you interact with day to day. Nurture these people that are closest to you. It’s easy to love yourself if you love the people around you.

Consistency may be something that, a lot of us could agree, was missing in our youth. Be the straw that broke the camel’s back. Be consistent with your practices. Be consistent with whatever you’re doing. Don’t stop. You’d be surprised with what you discover in the details.

Before we go, any advice you can share with people who are feeling overwhelmed?
Move your todo list onto your calendar! By putting your todos on a tangible place and time, it helps. Move it around if you need to. It gives you a realistic sense of your day. I find myself looking back and thinking: “Wow, I did a lot!”

On a moment to moment basis, one thing that has helped me when feeling a sense of overwhelm is breathing. Take 3 deep breathes slowly. Shifting your focus from your stressful situation to breathing pulls you away from the body’s natural fight or flight reaction. Seems simple enough? Try it.
